Greece In The Grips of Economic Depression

By: Ryan Matthew Dernick

The suicide rate in Greece jumped 40% year-on-year in first five months of 2011. Dually the number of young people without a job outnumbered those with one.

This past Wednesday a 77-year-old man took his own life in the busy Syntagma Square in central Athens, the scene of several violent clashes between anti-austerity protesters and the police in recent months. Nearly one thousand people gathered for another rally Thursday in Syntagma Square, which was largely peaceful apart from a few scuffles between small groups of protesters, Athens police said.

Retired pharmacist Dimitris Christoulas shot himself with a handgun amid the morning rush hour, in what was apparently a protest over the financial crisis gripping the nation.

This is not just regional to Greece but Geo-economically systemic as many other European Countries own Greek Debt like Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany,  Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom. Elsewhere in the world Australia, Canada, Chile, India, Japan, United States, Chinese Taipei, Singapore also own Greeks toxic debts sold through derivatives or credit default swaps by the IMF World Bank along with JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs.

With ever-growing unemployment, scarcer and fewer jobs available an Economic Depression has now thoroughly entrenched the Grecian people.

Economist Max Keiser of the “Keiser Report” met with Steve Forbes of Forbes Magazine last June 2011 in an International Chamber of Commerce meeting while in Greece. Steve Forbes reportedly said to Keiser, “this is an amazing opportunity we are going to buy the airport and other properties for pennies on dollar.”

Greece’s economy is estimated to have shrunk by a about a fifth since 2008, when it plunged into its deepest and longest post-war recession. About 600,000 jobs, more than one in ten, have been destroyed in the process. A record 1,033,507 people were without work in December, 41 percent more than in the same month last year. The number in work dropped to a record low of 3,899,319, down 7.9 percent year-on-year.

“Despite some emergency government measures to boost employment in early 2012, it is hard to see how the upward unemployment trend can be stabilized in the first half of the year,” said Nikos Magginas, an economist at National Bank of Greece.

Pressured by its international backers under the terms of a planned European Union/International Monetary Fund bailout, the country’s second since 2010, Greece last month slashed its minimum monthly wage by about a fifth to about 580 euros ($760), gross, to encourage job growth.

Ron Paul Fights for Liberty, NDAA Takes Them Away and Occupy Wall Street is Battered in Oakland California

By: Ryan Matthew Dernick

Now well into the heart of the 2012 Republican Presidential GOP race for the nomination Ron Paul holds a respectable third place nationally.

Ron Paul attains 3rd while Mitt Romney sweeps 1st place in Nevada.

A libertarian to the core and a protector of constitutional rights,Texas Congressman Ron Paul has the economic insight  to put America back on track. Florida Primary ended with Mitt Romney taking the win leaving Ron Paul in fourth place. When asked by Wolf Blitzer on CNN’s the “Situation Room” last Friday as to why he could not muster a more prominent foot hold in Florida among the voters there? Ron replied that the money was a big issue. As it did not allow him to campaign as aggressively as he could have liked to in the Sunshine State. In Nevada Paul ended up with 19 percent of the vote and again Mitt Romney stole the show with 50 percent.

On Saturday Feb.4th in the Adelson Late Caucus Results (Clark County, Nevada) were overwhelmingly in Ron Paul’s favor indicative of the growing national likeability of this Congressman and retired U.S. Air Foce Physician.
Paul 58% (183 votes)
Romney 19% (61 votes)
Gingrich 18% (57 votes)
Santorum 5% (16 votes)

Break the walls of ignorance and liberate “We the People” from a selfish selected few. Is it the purported Too Big to Go to Jail or is it Too Big to Fail? These spineless sycophants and their gestapo like minions feel the real change coming not the semantic sold change of ethically compromised puppet politicians.

The meek shall inherit the Earth not the greedy, malevolent and despotic conspirators against freedom. Let’s reinstate The Glass Steagall Act or Banking Act of 1933 which was put in place by Franklin Delano Roosevelt after the last Great Depression in the early 20th Century to stop banks from insider trading via derivatives but was then reversed by the Clinton Administration in 1999 prior to the 2008 onset of the present recession/depression. The act states it is to provide for safer and more effective use of the assets of banks, to regulate interbank control, to prevent the undue diversion of funds into speculative operations, and for other purposes. Is this historical irony or another corporate takeover? This is not a partisan issue but an issue that traverses any and all political ideologies.

All Criminal, I mean good things come to an end. Most people have heard the saying “The truth shall set you free”. If anyone has any reservations of where their allegiance lies then they might want to decide what side of the line in the sand they want to stand on. An egregious violation of our First Amendment right has been committed recently in Oakland, California when over 400 Occupy Oakland demonstrators and a number of journalists were arrested in a violent confrontation on Jan. 28. The turmoil began when protesters attempted to convert a vacant building into a community center. The police response to the protesters’ efforts included firing tear gas, bean bag projectiles and flash grenades to disperse the crowd, according to a Jan. 30 Democracy Now! The total of nationwide Occupy arrests are now up 6,300 protesters, according to @OccupyArrests’ twitter feed.

This violation is occurring because of the newest added piece of legislation passed known as the N.D.A.A .(National Defense Authorization Act 2011) that permits the President of the United States to unlawfully detain American citizens without normal due process of law. That means our 4th and 5th Amendment rights in the Bill of Rights are absolutely nullified or non-existent. It also increases sanctions on Iran, hence the ongoing further escalating nuclear tensions between the U.S. and Iran with the Unites States threatening Iran with more economic sanctions. Additionally (section 1045), commissions reviews of the military capabilities of countries such as Iran, China, and Russia, and refocuses the strategic goals of NATO towards energy security. This interestingly again reflects the current and ongoing geopolitical tensions the United States has with all three of these countries.

“Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country”-John F. Kennedy. These words speak volumes in reference to a growing Global Peace Movement of Occupy Wall Street.org and the fight for liberty with Ron Paul’s 2012 Presidential Campaign. Wall Street and the World Banks are behaving like the Austrian born French Queen Marie Antoinette (1774-1793) married to Louis XVI as she said unsympathetically and ignorantly to the starving mass French Populous “Let them eat Cake”. Those that enjoy being products of parasitism, or having their intellect and good natures exploited by a hegemonic global corporate dictatorship need not listen as your conscience is sold by falsely perceived securities.

“Man, woman and child were meant to be what they were born to be free and independent”- my redaction of John F. Kennedy’s closing statement toward secret agendas or societies that subvert not only America but the world’s freedoms. I leave you with some quotes from one of the greatest European leaders and speakers of the 20th Century Sir Winston Leonard Churchill (1874-1965).

“If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.”

“You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.”

“If you have ten thousand regulations, you destroy all respect for the law.”

“You can always count on Americans to do the right thing—after they’ve tried everything else.”

“History will be kind to me for I intend to write it.”

“Writing a book is an adventure. To begin with, it is a toy and an amusement; then it becomes a mistress, and then it becomes a master, and then a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster, and fling him out to the public.”

“The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.” “Courage is the first of human qualities because it is the quality that guarantees all the others.”

“Let Freedom Ring” and start a peaceful movement to foster real community awareness on real issues in your city wherever you are.

SOPA Bill Aims to “Censor the Internet”

By: Ryan Matthew Dernick

From bad to worse with the despotic potential for a copyright Bill that impedes our ability to surf the Internet. The SOPA and PIPA Bill are slated to change the way you surf the web. Backlash from the world tide of the internet toward this proposed legislation has been staunchly opposed to it’s possible passage.

SOPA may censor the Internet away from of us. E-Commerce may not survive if this heinous Bill becomes a reality

Wikipedia is among the many websites that have shut down their sites temporarily with a blank black screen posting a powerful question Imagine a world without free knowledge?”

While these attempts to censor the web become more brazen and obvious, Wikipedia’s query may be a foreboding segway to a Police State   style Internet. This bill could effectively cause a moratorium or freeze in e-commerce business not only in the United States but abroad.

Art Bordsky of advocacy group Public Knowledge similarly stated, “The definitions written in the bill are so broad that any US consumer who uses a website overseas immediately gives the US jurisdiction the power to potentially take action against it.”

Even social networking sites like Facebook, Vimeo or Tumblr could end up being banned if this so called Piracy Bill comes to be law.

As a journalist and as fellow human being who loves liberty we must all speak out against this atrocious SOPA Bill to our local congressman to ensure that Copyright laws don’t go too far.

Iran Say Israel and the United States are Responsible for Assassination

By: Ryan Matthew Dernick

Friday Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei insisted “the Islamist Republic will continue on that path.” This in reference to Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The Supreme Leader goes on to vow “to punish those who carried out Wednesdays bombing and those behind it.”

Iran State Television reported “two attackers riding by on a motorcycle stuck a magnetic bomb on the car of the Iranian Nuclear Scientist.”

Pieces of broken glass and debris lay strewn across the pavement  this past Wednesday at the scene of a bombing in Tehran. The victim an Iranian  Nuclear Scientist Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, age 32. His recent death  has acted to further ratchet up tensions with the Unites States and Iran amidst talk of further sanctions on the Middle Eastern Country in relation to its nuclear ambitions.

The Iranian Government called the act a ” terrorist attack” blaming Israel and the United States. The Iranian Supreme Leader further elaborates on those who conspired to commit this assassination “This cowardly terror has been designed or helped by the intelligence services of the CIA and Mossad and shows that the arrogant powers have reached a dead end in the face of the strong Iranian nation.”

Refuting the claims against the United States, U.S. Sec. of State Hillary Clinton assured the international community “I want to categorically deny any U.S. involvement in any kind of act of violence inside of Iran.”

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta placated the troops in Texas on Thursday: “We we’re not involved in any way, in any way with regards to the assassination that took place there. I’m not sure  who was involved .But I can tell you one thing that the United States was not involved in that kind of effort, thats not what the United States does.”

This is the latest in a string of attacks on Iranian nuclear officials. Two years ago a nuclear physics professor was killed when a bomb strapped to a motorcycle exploded outside his home. Several months after that a  pair of car bombings killed one nuclear scientist and wounded another while they were headed to work. In both cases Iranian officials also blamed the United States and Israel for the attacks and subsequent deaths. Iran has also been the victim of “Cyber Attacks”. In 2010 computers at Iranian nuclear facilities were infected with the stuxnet virus. It disrupted controls on centrifuges that were trying to enrich uranium. This past November an explosion destroyed part of a missile testing site however Iranian officials deemed that was an accident.

Just this week the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed that Iran has begun enriching uranium at  a second site near the city of Kong.  This recent assassination along with the escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran in the Strait of Hormuz show things are mounting toward an eventual conflict.

International Sanctions and Tensions Rise in Light of Iranian Missile Tests

By Ryan Matthew Dernick

Israel and Washington accused Tehran of trying to develop nuclear weapons. Iran says “our nuclear program is a peaceful drive to generate electricity so that the world’s fourth-largest oil producer can export more of its gas and crude.”

In a statement released by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad he insists that the nuclear ambitions of his country are for purely peaceful purposes. Iranian Army Chief said in a public statement to the United States this past Monday during the Iranian Missile Tests in the Strait of Hormuz saying ” That the U.S. should not bring its aircraft carriers into the Gulf again.” The Iranian Army Chief goes on to say we are not in the business of warning America more than once.”

Iran has been conducting a barrage of naval drills in the Gulf in recent days including test-firing several missiles. These exercises were held near the Strait of Hormuz, through which around 20% or 1/6th of the world’s traded oil supply passes.

Iran's recent Missile Tests in the Strait of Hormuz Monday Prompt the potential for more International Sanctions against the Middle Eastern Country

Tehran said on Monday that “mock exercises on shutting the strait had been carried out, although there was no intention of closing it.”

The U.N. Security Council has already brought four successions of sanctions against Iran for refusing to halt its uranium enrichment ventures.  Enriched uranium can be converted into nuclear weapons grade fissile material.

“These are the kinds of steps that we would like to see not just from our close allies and partners in places like Europe but from countries around the world”, according to US State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland.

These sanctions include a ban on the supply of heavy weaponry and nuclear-related technology to Iran, a block on Iranian arms exports, and an asset freeze on key individuals and companies.

Sanctions against Iran Up to This Point

United States

  • Longstanding ban on all trade with Iran except for activities “intended to benefit the Iranian people”
  • New sanctions against foreign firms dealing with Iran’s oil sector and central bank

European Union

  • Restrictions on trade in equipment which could be used for uranium enrichment
  • Asset freeze on individuals and organisations linked with nuclear programme
  • Export ban on natural gas technology

United Nations

  • Ban on sales of heavy weaponry and nuclear technology to Iran
  • Iranian arms exports blocked, and asset freeze for key individuals and firms
  • Cargo inspections to detect and stop Iran’s acquisition of illicit materials

America has a fever, a fever for Ron Paul

By : Ryan Matthew Dernick

Similar to the cow belling Will Ferrel in the famous “Cow Bell” Oyster Cult Saturday Night Live skit with Christopher Walken as the 70’s music producer who craved more cow bell. However in this version the United States is Christopher Walken and it has a fever, a fever for  Ron Paul.

The U.S. needs more Ron Paul like Walken "needs more Cow Bell"

This Libertarian could go all the way. I suggested days ago once he solidifies his place in Iowa then New Hampshire beyond that point it may turn the tide nationally for a strong run for him during the very heart of the primaries . The Ron Paul political frenzy has only just begun. From Sean Hannity interviewing Dr.Paul one day on the touted “Fair and Balanced” FOX news to Neil Cavuto earlier this Friday at the Iowa Caucus. CNN has continued to question him about a taboo previously published article which he supposedly had stated something racist in.

Ron Paul has now been in the lead for the Republican GOP Candidate Position for approximately 10 days. If He can sustain these positive numbers for himself through the duration of the primaries into the  Presidential elections next fall then he could have a shot at the presidency. His greatest numbers come from the young voters, independents, democrats and libertarians.Below are the dates for the upcoming primaries and caucuses with their locations.

Congress asks Jon Corzine “Show me the Money”

By: Ryan Matthew Dernick

Last Thursday under the order of one of three Congressional Subpoena’s filed against former MF Global CEO Jon Corzine he came to sit before the U.S. House Agriculture Committee in Washington D.C. for questioning on the whereabouts of the over 1 billion dollars in vanished funds.

Corzine is trailed by reporters after testifying about the MF Global bankruptcy during a hearing before the U.S. House Agriculture Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington

A primary goal of the this first round of inquisitions were to reveal where the misplaced customers segregated accounts went. The amount missing is purported to be anywhere from 1.2 billion to almost 3 billion dollars in holdings which disappeared from the investment banking firm that was MF Global.

When Jon Corzine was asked as to where the missing funds in question may be he replied,”I simply do not know where the money is, or why the accounts have not been reconciled to date,” he told the House Agriculture Committee, adding that he was “stunned” when he heard of the missing funds. United States Lawmakers were not digesting any of his clueless replies in regards to where the money had gone.

Rep. David Scott, D-Ga., said “it was the height of disbelief to think that Corzine a former senator, a former governor and the former head of Goldman Sachs knew nothing about the $1.2 billion.”

“We’ve got to get better answers from you because you were the CEO,” he said.

Rep. Tim Johnson, R-Ill., said that “people who live in the real world have “suffered dramatically from MF Global’s downfall” and he asked Corzine “whether he’d be willing to pay back those people with his own personal fortune.” Jon Corzine evasively steered away from the question saying, ” The funds will eventually be found.”

Jon Corzine said “he couldn’t account for the missing 1.2 billion in individual accounts.” “There are… many transactions that occurred in those last chaotic days,” Corzine said. “I am not aware of all those, nor do I have all the information to be able to look at all those transactions. As a consequence, it would be very hard for me to speculate as to where or why that shortfall in customer accounts took place.”

Lawmakers continually hounded Corzine as to whether or not he authorized the use of customer funds for proprietary investments. Corzine said again and again, “I had no intention of moving customer money to proprietary accounts.” “There is no intention, under any context that I can think of, that I was authorizing tapping into segregated funds,” he said.

James Kobak, a lawyer representing the trustee for the liquidation of MF Global said “The MF Global records are a mess.”

Commodities Futures Trading Commission commissioner Jill Sommers added, “I think that we can’t over-emphasize the size of the books and records of MF Global…The amount of accounts and transactions are enormous.”

Public Servants Insider Trading in Congress

By: Ryan Matthew Dernick

Jon Corzine MF Global CEO and former Govenor of New Jersey alongside President Obama

In the last couple of weeks MF Global financial investment firm gets away with extorting anywhere from 1.5 to just shy of 3 billion dollars of clients segregated accounts including Gerald Celente’s account. Gerald Celente is the founder of TRENDS Research Magazine of trendsresearch.com. One of the more ethically questionable  international investment banking firms JP Morgan will be absorbing the dissolving MF Global company’s  LME (London Metal Exchange) holdings. The majority of the at least 1.3 billion of which they cannot locate of people’s individual accounts in silver and gold ETF’s may not even be reimbursed to the understandably agitated investors according to JP Morgan.

The House Ethics Committee stated in a memo ” Members of Congress may be liable as insider traders, whether they obtain non-public information as part of their official duties or outside of them.”

Interestingly ironic is that Jon Corzine is a recent U.S. Governor of New Jersey from 2006 to 2010, a former CEO of Goldman Sachs in 1999 and then MF Global in 2010 which is now at the center of the congressional insider stock trading legal debacle. Financial regulators Monday banned the kinds of sweet insider trading deals that may have contributed to the bankruptcy of MF Global and the downfall of Jon Corzine. Today Tuesday the 6th of December 2011 The House Financial Services Committee will commence a hearing on such purported trading within the very halls of U.S. congress. A public servant of the United States main motivation should be to protect and serve the people from threats both foreign and domestic instead of lining their pockets with greenbacks. This espouses a financial collusion against not only the citizens of America but any global free market society.

A recent “60 Minutes” piece focused on financial transactions involving House Speaker John Bohner (R-OH), Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-AL). Each of them deny any unscrupulous actions were committed.

Just when you think Occupy Wall Street is beginning to lose gusto as cities like New York or D.C. are increasing the rhetoric against the peaceful protesters who speak out against just this kind of extortion. This is just the news needed for the 99% to fuel the couple month long grassroots activist movement further. It has been revealed JP Morgan has been at the forefront of funding New York City Police Department’s oppression of peaceful protests via doling out N.Y.P.D. holiday bonuses for law enforcement. Just like separation of Church and State there should be a separation of Investment banking firms and State.

A Latin saying that always gives me hope Veritas Vos Liberabit, The Truth Shall Set Us free.
